Sage offers an extensive line of accounting products and, next to QuickBooks, is one of the most recognized brands in the industry. For the purpose of this review, we looked at DacEasy Small Business, which includes an accounting and a payroll module, as well as a business center and one year of Sage Business Care Gold support with one year of tax updates.
DacEasy includes the following modules: vendors and purchasing, inventory and pricing, customers and sales, orders and shipping, employees and payroll, daily sales, banking and financials, and period closing. Each section includes an associated help section and reports. All data forms have the ability to include custom data fields, and reports can be exported to popular software easily. DacEasy includes helpful search tools and supports item image files.
This Sage product line is available with a single user license or multiple user license. DacEasy can mange unlimited inventory items, vendors and customer files – it is only limited by your hardware. We could not determine how many concurrent users the multi-user license supports; however, if you have a large company with numerous users, Sage has products available that can support that scenario.
DacEasy comes with roughly 75 preconfigured reports and the ability to customize reports and create reports (even utilizing custom data fields). Crystal Reports are available, or you can generate, print or export reports as ASCII, HTML or Excel files. The accounting software comes with business analysis reports, period closing reports, sales person reports, balance sheets, journal, general ledger and more. To customize the appearance of the reports, you can edit the font choice and layout. Alternatively, you can export reports to MS products and edit them using that software. Although this software can be configured to generate an almost unlimited number of reports, it does not come with 100s of preconfigured reports like other software.
Sage knows accounting. Sage started out in the U.K. more than 30 years ago and now has offices around the world, including headquarters on most continents. DacEasy includes all major accounting modules and displays the sections in a traditional workflow presentation that most people who use accounting software are accustomed to seeing. DacEasy has modules for managing product, employees, vendors, customers and sales. This small business accounting software has tools for tracking fixed assets as well as billable and non-billable expenses. DacEasy can reconcile transactions, print checks and pay bills.
DacEasy includes a comprehensive payroll and employees module that can manage employees, those who are paid by contract, salaried and hourly workers, and commissioned sales persons. This small business accounting software can track vacation and sick time, review dates, pay history, deduction history, third-party sick pay and custom fields. It can be configured to directly deposit employees' pay or print payroll checks. DacEasy includes free tax updates for the first year.
The inventory and pricing module includes everything we look for, including the ability to store item locations, print pick lists, prepare assemblies and manage multiple price levels. It can also associate more than one vendor with each item and can propose product substitutions if the stock of an item depleted. DacEasy can monitor stock levels, reorder product, track commissions and taxes, and manage up to six custom text fields and four label fields.
In terms of service-type products, DacEasy can track jobs, including start/end dates, revenue budgets and expense budgets. It can manage services and bill by the hour or partial hour. This software can track time and expense budgets. As with most sections of DacEasy, service files can also manage custom data fields and reports.
As with most accounting software, DacEasy is compatible with a range of products and includes the ability to export MS-compatible files, process credit cards and incorporate POS software. Other useful tools include database backup and restoration features. DacEasy can accept scanned information from barcode readers and submit data to third-party payroll services.
Although this version does not include a mobile app, other Sage products provide mobile tools such as mobile payment processors, if needed. This version of DacEasy does not have a parallel online version, but other Sage products are cloud-based. Sage does not offer a free accountant copy of DacEasy for your accountant, but it does offer accountant versions and an accountant network for accountants that have Sage clients. In addition, although it does not include a calendar view of tasks and activities, it does provide a task list. For the most part, even if DacEasy does not include a specific feature we were looking for, it has a workaround or comparable tool.
DacEasy comes with either a single user license or a multi-user license and can manage an unlimited database size. Most Sage products are designed with small- to medium-sized businesses in mind; however, the company does have products for large operations, and you can acquire assistance in migrating data should you need it. DacEasy Small Business can manage more than one warehouse location and multiple businesses. Sage sells accounting products across the planet, so many of them have the ability to work with a range of currencies, but it appears that this version only works with one currency and not across currencies. If your company is scheduled for major growth, you will want to contact Sage and have them help you create the best Sage accounting system to fit your specific needs.
DacEasy has a streamlined workflow presentation that experienced accounting software users can master easily. It follows traditional accounting methodologies and provides numerous insightful reports. It also provides a comprehensive accounting module and extensive payroll and inventory capabilities. In addition, Sage provides a free year of Gold support and tax updates. If you are looking for a software-based accounting system for your small business, Sage DacEasy is worth putting on your list.

This accounting software does not include compatible mobile apps, a document manager, the ability to work with multiple currencies or free accountant versions. We also found the service and job-costing tools to be rather limited.
DacEasy includes exceptional tools for managing complex inventory and a commissioned sales team. It can manage complex pricing structures and multiple warehouses, print pick lists and compare POs to received inventory. DacEasy is one the best accounting software systems we have seen for managing inventory.
