Simply Accounting Pro has all the accounting modules you need to prepare bill payments and invoices, control sales and purchases, and track revenue and expenses. The newest version includes a banking section and can support product images.
Simply Accounting’s reporting sections are easy to understand and allow you to create an unlimited number of customized reports using Microsoft Word and Excel. This accounting software also has over 100 predefined reports.
This accounting software is a Sage product, which is the same software provider that offers Sage Peachtree Complete Accounting. It is a Canadian product but they do offer a US version with correct tax information and it can convert between English and Spanish.
Simply Accounting Pro is easy to use. The opening screen has large icons clearly labeled so you can find your way around. Navigation is excellent; you can enter each section with just one click and the setup button will allow you to customize your invoices or purchase orders. We really liked the Daily Business Manager that displays a calendar, notes, memos and access to payments due relevant to that specific date.
Simply Accounting Pro has an excellent Help Section. Not only does the help cover every topic; it has a search tool to find subjects fast and easy. Simply Accounting also has a Learning Center that provides numerous instructional videos, FAQs and access to the online support. We had a few email interactions with Sage support and we found them knowledgeable and quick to respond.
With Accounts Receivable, you can build general quotes, sales orders, invoices, receipts and manage customers. But Accounts Receivable is missing a few tools, including tools to estimate shipping costs; however, they have added more reporting options than they had before.
Like the section above, Accounts Payable lets you create quotes, sales orders and invoices. Simply also gives you the choice to pay vendor invoices, credit bills and make miscellaneous payments.
Simply Accounting lets you manage employees easily; you can add, remove or modify an employee's status and run payroll collectively or individually. This accounting software will let you set pay periods by the year, for example you can set an employee at 26 or 52 pay periods per year; however it will not let you set a unique number of pay periods per year.
There are several standout features in the Inventory Section that makes management easy, especially for businesses with large inventories. You can search for an inventoried item by item number or stock keeping unit number or SKU. You can also create assemblies or grouped items, and remove items from inventory without clearing the tracking history. Items listed in inventory that have zero quantity can be deleted in one step.
When we reviewed this product before it was difficult to add a location, but now once you “create” a location you can add that information to the inventory item.
The banking section will allow you to receive payments, make deposits, transfer funds, pay bills and reconcile accounts. With Simply Accounting you can also print deposit slips and export reports to Excel.
Simply Accounting Pro doesn't have a Time Billing function. This advanced accounting feature is offered in the company's more comprehensive products including Simply Accounting Premium, Simply Accounting Enterprise and Simply Accounting Accountants' Edition.
In this program, Job Costing is called Projects. From this section you can add, remove, and adjust all the projects on your list. It also can help you manage not only the time spent on the project but also the budget.
This accounting program does not provide a “general ledger” tool but you can view that type of information through reports. In addition, Simply Accounting does provide a “general journal” that can be used to display basic debit and credit information.
This software does not provide a tool for managing fixed assets such as buildings, computers, company cars and so on. We also did not see a way to attach an item to an employee, such as a company cell phone.
This software can convert data from previous versions of Sage Simply Accounting, excluding DOS and Macintosh versions. It can also convert general ledger, customer, vendor, employee and inventory data from QuickBooks versions 2001-2010, MYOB (AccountEdge) versions 10 and 11 and Quicken versions XG 2003, XG 2004, and XG 2005 and from Excel.
This program comes with quite a few pre-designed reports, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, inventory, banking, job costing and journal reports. It also provided 16 financial reports.
Simply Accounting Pro is good accounting software and the newest version has many needed improvements, such as a better banking section and more reporting options. It does not have a way to manage fixed assets, but to be fair, few accounting programs in this price range do. If you need your accounting software to be able to switch between English and Spanish, this is the only accounting software that we have reviewed that can do this for you.
The newest version has many practical, functional improvements compared to versions we have reviewed previously.
Many advanced tools are only available in the Premium or Enterprise version.
Simply Pro has everything most small businesses need for basic accounting except time billing.
