Bottom Line Accounting Software is average accounting software. There are several tools available; only the Time Billing and Job Management Sections are missing. Bottom Line Accounting Software also offers extra features for additional cost: Loan Analysis, Loan Appreciation, Bond Management, Data Backup, and Annuity Values.
Bottom Line Accounting Software isn't as easy to use as most other accounting software. Each section is labeled on the top tool bar, but the labels are abbreviations and may confuse the non-accountant.
Also, when we ran the program the first time and clicked on the "Transaction Add" section, an error popped up asking for a tax code to be entered into two fields. This wasn't unique; we learned we had to enter many tax codes into the program manually. So, except for a few windows popping up to prompt for information, installation and setup were uneventful.
Help/Documentation:
The dropdown help menu only offers three options: about, technical support, and check for update on the web. Under the about option you can see the version number, technical email address, and a few required specs for your computer. The technical support option only shows two more support email address you can try. Finally, the online updates option will update the software, but that's all. No other help is included with Bottom Line.
Accounts Receivable:
The Accounts Receivable Section is easy to use; you can generate regular or recurring invoices and calculate finance charges, but creating invoices is a feature only available for customers with a profile saved in Bottom Line. So, you have to fill in all the customers' information before you can make a simple invoice; even if the customer is temporary. If you want to email the invoice, you must enter the right email address and then somehow copy and paste the invoice into your email program.
This section lets you to enter shipping addresses but you cannot track shipments in Bottom Line. There are fourteen different accounts receivable features available.
Accounts Payable:
The Accounts Payable Section is similar to Accounts Receivable. You must create the Vendor record (customer's profile) before you can complete the transaction. Then you can print checks and 1099 forms. This section has thirteen different reports available.
Payroll:
The Payroll Section has several helpful features that let you process payroll and print tax forms W-2 and 941. You must complete a profile on each employee (where you can specify pay amount and frequency). Fifteen different payroll reports are available.
Inventory:
The inventory section is useful, but it won't allow you to include an image with the description of items and you cannot group items for assemblies (kits) or create drop shipments for items that aren't in stock. You can specify costing methods, stocking locations, inventory levels, and item numbers. There are thirteen different inventory reports available.
Banking:
The banking and reconciliation sections could use more detail. The only task this section completes is to reconcile all accounts at once. Some other banking features are found the General Ledger Section. There aren't any reports available.
Time Billing:
This section isn't available in Bottom Line Accounting Software.
Job Costing:
Bottom Line Accounting Software doesn't offer Job Costing.
General Ledger:
The General Ledger Section is good; you can find the list of accounts that states whether each item is an asset or a liability, and you can view a chart of accounts and budget setup. There are twelve different reports available in this module.
Fixed Assets:
This section isn't available in Bottom Line.
Summary:
Bottom Line Accounting Software is average accounting software. With a few more accounting sections and improvements to help the non-accountant, this software could be excellent.
